Who is the Country Food Trust?

We are a charity who raise funds to provide meals to feed people in need.

Our meals are produced by a specialist food manufacturer. They are game based, high in protein, low in fat and are supplied in one of two ways:

  • In single, ready to use retort pouches that do not need to be refrigerated and have a one year shelf life.

  • In catering packs to those charities who feed a large number of people at any one time.

Our recipes have been devised by our Consultant Chef Tim Maddams who has worked tirelessly for the Charity and has devised recipes that are both tasty and nutritious and do not contain additives.

Currently we have three products:

  • The Country Casserole – a nutritious and warming pheasant casserole

  • The Country Curry – a mildly spicy pheasant curry

  • The Country Bolognese – a rich and tasty venison ragu.

We also buy large quantities of frozen meat directly from reputable game dealers and donate it to those charities who have the relevant storage and cooking facilities.

Who We Help

We distribute game based ready-meals to charities that hand out food to people in need. We also provide meats of all types to charities that cook for people in need.

We currently deliver The Country Casserole, The Country Curry and The Country Bolognese in ready-meal format. These meals are produced in retort pouches,  which means they have been pressure cooked and do not need to be refrigerated which makes them ideal as a meal to be handed out to people who may not have access to refrigeration. No additives are used in the process and the products have a one year shelf life. 

Our meals come in an individual portion size (300g) which food banks use extensively and a catering size (2 kg) which are used by charities like soup kitchens that may not have experienced chefs but need to feed a higher number of people. In addition to our ready meals we also supply 750 kilo pallets of chilled and frozen meat to redistribution charities who have freezers  and who then split the pallet to smaller charities which have chefs in place.

We provide a cookbook about how to handle game written by Tim Maddams and with recipes contributed by well-known chefs like Mark Hix, Prue Leith, Rick Stein, Brian Turner and many others. As a business, for the 2021 Season DeerBox will be donating 10% of all the venison we process directly to the Country Food Trust.
